Fixed Blade Knives

A Fixed Blade Knife does not fold...

Other names for "Fixed Blade" knives are; sheath knife, straight knife or rigid knife.

The Value of a Fixed Blade Knife

Fixed Blade knives are valued for their simplicity, utility and strength. The blade usually extends into the handle, which gives the fixed blade it's strength. Most fixed blade knives have no moving parts, hence their simplicity. Fixed blade knives come in a variety of shapes and sizes, most often designed for a particular task.

Military Boot Knife Example

The Kershaw knife pictured above has a 4 1/2" fixed blade and is 9" in overall length.

Because the blade is always exposed...

Sheaths or other coverings or containers are used to safely carry the fixed blade knife.

Custom made fixed-blade knife by Arno Bernard in South Africa. The handles are made of Giraffe Bone and the sheath is made from Cape Buffalo hide. The blade length is only 2 3/8" and the over-all length of the knife is just 4 7/8".
