searching help
Use AND, OR, and NOT to create
a "search sentence."
For example, flower AND spring will return results
that have both "flower" and "spring" within the product
name or description. Actually, flower spring
will return the same -- all keywords listed without
OR, and NOT are required by default. As another example,
flower NOT spring will return all results that
have "flower," but don't have "spring." Finally,
flower OR spring will return all results that have
either "flower" or "spring."
AND, OR, and NOT are case
sensitive - they MUST be uppercase.
You can use +, ~ and - as
shorthand for AND, OR, and NOT.
Use quotation marks to search for phrases.
For example, "pink posy" will return one product,
called "Pink Posy."
Use parentheses for complex search sentences.
For example, spring AND flower OR candy will
return all products with "candy" and all results with
"spring" and "flower." In this case, the search runs
first on "spring AND flower," then looks for "candy."
You can use parentheses to be more specific, such as
spring AND (flower OR candy). This will then
look for flowers or candy that also have the word "spring."

- Can I change the layout of the catalog or
detail pages?
Not unless you are very comfortable with HTML
and ASP. As far as this product goes, "what you
see is what you get," and we do not provide support
for changing the existing layout of the listings
catalog or listings detail pages. If you are not
proficient in HTML, we advise that you do not attempt
to modify the layout. If you really want to change
the layout, you may order custom work from us to
help you change the web page layouts. (Note - everything
in this template is "open source." If you are familiar
with code, you will be able to modify anything and
everything.)
- How do I add more product listings?
See above!
- Can I add more "fields," like "size," or
"color"?
This will most likely be very difficult for
you to do on your own, unless you are very comfortable
with HTML and ASP code. You would have to order
custom work from us or hire someone else who is
comfortable with HTML and ASP code. We are always
open to hearing suggestions on how to improve the
product, so if you have an idea for a new field
that should be added, please let us know at
support@johngaltstools.com.
If you don't want to wait for a new version, we
suggest that you put extra information in the "description"
field.
- Do I need to know ASP or HTML to use this
template?
No, you don't. This template is built so that
it's easy for you to start using it. We have full
instructions on what you need to do. This template
is also built "as-is" -- we do not expect you to
try to change the catalog layout or detail pages.
- What kind of server can I host this web site
on?
A Microsoft Server with IIS 4.0 or later and
ASP 3.0 or later installed. You may also require
some extra assistance from the web server administrator.
This is discussed further on the
Getting Started page.

- Knife Collecting - The
internet provides a market - First, it allows the collector to more easily
find (or buy, sell or trade) whatever he/she collects. In this case we're
concerned with collecting pocket knives. There are auctions where pocket
knives are bought and sold daily. I will provide some links later. If you
are looking for a hard to find knife with very specific characteristics,
chances are that sooner or later you will find it on the internet.
- Pocket Knives - The internet
publicizes market values - Secondly, it's easier than ever before to find
out what something is worth. This has an upside and downside for collectors.
- Knife Handles - The internet
practically insures that you can find the knife you want to buy, but there
may be fewer "bargains" to be found. This is because everyone can see what
others are selling for. The internet also practically insures that you can
find a buyer for the knife you want to sell, but there may be more
competition from other sellers that may hold down the price you can get.
In the old days, if you were the only person in your geographic area with a
particular knife for sale, you might get a higher price because the buyer
may have to go to great expense just to locate another one. Not so today!
